 Ukraine - space nation
On August 23rd, 2002; Ukraine issued a set of four (4) stamps commemorating its achievements in space exploration. Each stamp has a portrait of an individual that has made a marked contribution in this area.
| The first stamp shows the portrait of Yuryj Kondratiuk (Oleksandr Sharheyi) (1897 - 1942) - a renown theoretician. It shows his theory of travelling to the Moon. |

The second stamp shows Mykhailo Yianhel (1911 - 1971) - main builder of the "Pivden" rocket system. Here we see the SS-18 rocket lifting up. |
| The third stamp shows Mykola Kybalchych (1853 - 1881) - political revolutionary, inventor. We see his early design of a rocket. |

The fourth stamp shows Serhyi Korolov (1907 - 1966) - innovator of rocket technology. Here we see the launch of the first Sputnik vehicle into space. |
A pictorial cancellation was used for the First Day of Issue cover. Cancellation was done in Kyiv.
